Jody Lockshin’s passion for real estate began in high school, when she worked for her dad’s real estate company in Houston. In 1979 she came to Austin to study at The University of Texas, becoming a Texas Real Estate Agent immediately and going to work for what was then called Habitat Hunters, Realtors®. Graduating in 1983 with a BBA in Marketing, she became a Texas Real Estate Broker and purchased the Habitat Hunters business that same year.
Starting with little more than an office and a list of clients, Jody has grown the business to what it is today – one of Austin’s oldest, largest, and well-respected real estate companies in Austin, with 18 agents and five assistants, serving as a one-stop-shop for all residential, commercial, and consulting needs. After almost 25 years with the same owner, the majority of Habitat Hunters’ and Jody’s business comes from repeat customers and referrals from satisfied clients, which means she must be doing something right.
Jody’s effective negotiating and marketing skills have enabled her to become a multi-billion dollar producer. Often interviewed by the media and having been hired as an expert witness on several occasions, Jody is considered an authority in her field. Over the last 22 years, she has earned her GRI (Graduate Realtors® Institute) and CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) designations and has served as President, Chairman, and various other offices on both local and state real estate associations. Jody has received many honors and achievement awards over the years that have recognized her excellence.
Jody’s husband, Jeff Plotkin, joined the company in 1993, making Habitat Hunters one of the only real estate agencies in Austin with an on-staff CPA/attorney/ Realtor®.
As well as spending time with her family, friends, and dog, Vannah, Jody's interests include traveling, playing poker, and the following charities: Lupus Foundation of America, American Kidney Foundation, Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, Any Baby Can, Humane Society, and Red Cross.
Jody was the recipient of a Kidney transplant in 2002; the donor was her brother-in-law, Rod Schnuriger. She’ll be happy to discuss all issues regarding organ donation and transplantation with anyone who asks. Organ donation information is located at www.txorgansharing.org.
