Nelda was born in San Antonio and grew up as an Air Force dependent. She lived in Missouri, and South Carolina plus seven years in Ankara, Turkey. When her father retired, the family returned to San Antonio. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School she attended Southwest Texas University in San Marcos. She transferred to Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education and Fine Arts. She later attended the University of Corpus Christi and received her Master of Science in Mid-Management. She received her bilingual endorsement at the University of Houston and her administration endorsement from the University of UT in Edinburg.

Nelda and her husband moved to Austin in 2001 and started working for AISD. After thirty years in education she retired and enter the real estate profession.

Nelda enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs, Sugar and Cesar, working on crafts, cake decorating, reading and meeting new people and places.
