Texas reigns as the economic king over the fifty states, but Austin remains the king of kings in economic growth. The capitol of the Lone Star state constantly grows and expands its businesses to allow further development and encourage a healthy economy. Let’s take a look at some of the most recent business news in the Austin area:
National Instruments Adds 1,000 New Jobs
Widely acclaimed engineering tool maker, National Instruments, recently announced its plan to add 1,000 new jobs at its Austin Headquarters. The company has designed tools for engineers and scientists since 1976 and employs about 2,273 in Austin. National Instruments will add these jobs in the department of research and development in hopes to expand its ideas and advancements.
5 Companies with Start-Up Funding
At least five companies and start-ups in the Austin area recently received funding to move to the next level. Just a few of these include Xtreme Power Inc., Lion Street Inc., Snap Trends Inc., Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc., and Infochimps Inc. Each business raised a unique amount of funds from various amounts of investors, but each has taken the next step in moving their business forward.
2 Local Restaurants Among Top 20
Additionally, two of Austin’s restaurants recently made the Bon Apetit magazine’s 20 Most Important Restaurants in America list. Spot number 10 went to Uchi and Uchiko while Franklin Barbecue claimed #17. Uchi and Uchiko, a contemporary, local Japanese and sushi restaurant is said to have “Japanese-inspired small plates that only someone not bound by the constraints of tradition could pull off”. Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue said his restaurant has succeeded because “it's not just the food, it's the vibe. You stand in line and you share beers with the people around you. It's like coming to Grandma's house.” Sounds like these Austin eateries are taking off!
Makes National List of Best Places to Work
A recent report by Workplace Dynamics placed Austin on top of the national list of best places to work. With beautiful scenery, excellent weather, and a growing economy, there’s not much that Austin is missing. However, there’s more to the ranking than just these factors. Results were determined through feedback from anonymous, objective surveys sent to 1.7 million Americans in collaboration with 30 major publishers. The results of the report “reflect the strength of the Texas economy — with eight out of the top 10 and 30 of the top 150 headquartered in the state." Top three Austin-based companies to make the list were Keller-Williams Realty, St. David’s HealthCare, and Whole Foods Market.
