We all know everything’s bigger in Texas, but did anyone realize this includes economic growth? Business Facilities magazine named Texas the best state due to having “the most dynamic economy of any state in the nation.” Not only does Texas reign as king this year, but this is the fifth year in a row it claimed gold medal or second place.
Business Facilities boasts that Texas barely lost any ground in job production during the Great Recession and returned to prerecession levels before any other state. A great deal of this stability can be attributed to Texas’ “natural supremacy in the oil and gas sector”. Texas also sped up the pace as the first place winner when Apple’s global Operations Center recently chose Austin as their new home. A whopping 3,600 jobs sprung up in Austin from this move, granting Austin the Bronze Medal in BF’s 2012 Economic Development Deal of the Year.
Texas’ growth knows no boundaries as it continues to develop a “diverse and aggressive economic development strategy”. This strategy swept Texas to the top in semiconductors and other high-tech growth sectors such as bioscience, supported by a world-class university system. The Lone Star State also leads in the manufacturing sector including automotive and heavy equipment production facilities along with alternative fuel sources such as wind power. “Texas isn’t shy about incentivizing new business development,” Rogers said. “When you factor in traditionally low labor costs, strong infrastructure, a growing population and a stellar higher education system, you have an unbeatable combination.”
Texas gave an outstanding performance in Business Facilities’ 2012 State Rankings Report as the best state in the magazine’s Best Business Climate Ranking. This king of economic growth also earned an additional top 10 finishes in close to a dozen other categories.
Texas continues to make leaps and bounds in economic growth that passes other states by miles. The Lone Star state has a tradition of leaving the other 49 states in the dust as it rises in job production and a variety of growing markets. Texas’ economic future looks brighter with each year, making Texas the best place to live in 2013.
